Worms & Compost, my new best friends

Tuesday, February 5th

To some this is no surprise. Growing up a farm girl besides pigs and cattle, worms were probably my next best friends. Need to go fishing? Find some worms and we are good to go!

What did the worm farmer say to his son when he came home late? Where in EARTH have you been?

When the opportunity came about to start a worm farm, at Gifft Hill School Lower Campus I was not going to pass it up! Today I had the opportunity to become Ms. Gabby and go meet with the kids down on lower campus and teach them about the worm farm we were about ready to start for them! To say they were excited was an understatement!

We started out with wet shredded paper for a carbon source

We brought in the big guys (aka the worms)

We added a couple handfuls of soil

Time to feed them some tomatoes (yumm!)

GIRL POWER, moving the worm farm to its forever home!

After helping the kids start their worm farm they will be in charge of this with the help of their teacher! They get to check on the worms everyday and feed them their compost as needed. Everything except egg shells, and citrus to keep all of our worm friends happy!

Well I need to order in some new worm's from Uncle Jim's Worm Farm! So stay warm Iowa Friends! :)
